"The Admiralty means the officer of His Majesty's Navy who is for the time being in Hong Kong in charge of the China Squadron of His Majesty's Eastern Fleet.

"The Radiotelegraph Convention" means the International Radio- telegraph Convention of Washington, 1927, and includes any modi- fication of the Convention made from time to time.

"The International Radiotelegraph Regulations" means the general regulations and the additional regulations annexed to the Radio- telegraph Convention, and includes any modification of such regula- tions.

Postmaster General means the Postmaster General of Hong Kong and includes the person for the time being performing the duties of that office.

Coast station" means a land station assigned for communication with ship stations. It may be a fixed station assigned also for commu- nication with ship stations, it is then considered as a coast station only during the period of its service with ship stations.

Ship station"

means a station established on board a ship which is not permanently moored.

"Certificated operator" means a radiotelegraph operator holding a valid and subsisting operator's certificate, of the kind and appropriate class contemplated by the International Radiotelegraph Regulations, issued by the Postmaster General or the Postmaster General of the United Kingdom or the Government of any self-governing Dominion.

2. The ship station hereby licensed shall be of the class mentioned in the International Radiotelegraph Regulations as is specified in the Schedule hereto, and the wireless telegraphy service to be maintained shall be in accordance with such classification and with the International Radiotelegraph Regulations.

3. The apparatus installed at or for or as part of the said ship station shall at all times be of the character specified in the said Schedule and be in conformity with the International Radiotelegraph Regulations

4. The said ship station shall be capable of using waves of frequencies of 500 and 375 kc/s. (wavelengths of 600 and 800 metres) as measured by the standard of measurement in use for the time being by the Government of Hong Kong or any of the wavelengths prescribed by any recognised admin- istration for communication with direction finding stations, and such other wave lengths as may be authorised in writing, from time to time, by the Postmaster General.

5. The rate of transmission and reception of messages shall be at the rate of not less than 20 words a minute, five letters being counted as one word.

7. No messages shall be sent or received by the said ship station when the said ship is in any of the harbours of the Colony of Hong Kong.

8. The licensed apparatus shall not be used by the licensee or by any other

person either on behalf of or by permission of the licensee for the des- patch or receipt of messages except messages authorised by this licence.
